wintry weather on the Coast: Upcoming options for winter Steelhead on Washington’s Coastal Rivers

remaining Tuesday night, anglers heard updates from fishery managers on the negative projected wild winter steelhead run numbers and knowledge laws for the upcoming season on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula and SW Coast.

primarily, the information remains grim. Years of population declines, exacerbated by fresh downturns in ocean productivity and survival, have persisted. Anglers can, and should, predict less chance to fish these rivers right through the winter and Spring of 2021.

whereas we all stay up for last selections from managers, take a moment to read the Wild Steelhead Coalition’s summary of the statistics and options offered at the assembly and their call for a management paradigm shift on the coast’s wild steelhead rivers.
